SENIOR designer

Cathie Hong Interiors is a boutique residential interior design studio based in the Bay Area. We are looking for a talented, highly organized Senior Interior Designer to join our growing team.

This is a hands-on role that combines design leadership, project management, client advocacy, and team collaboration. The ideal candidate is an excellent designer and space planner who can confidently lead projects forward while navigating the many moving parts of high-end residential construction.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead residential and boutique commercial projects from concept through design, documentation, construction and installation

  • Develop cohesive, elevated designs that align with the Cathie Hong Interiors aesthetic while bringing your own creative perspective and willingness to take thoughtful risks

  • Have a strong understanding of space planning, residential design and construction, custom millwork and detailing; commercial design and construction experience is a plus

  • Lead client-facing design presentations and produce polished deliverables

  • Own day-to-day project management: push projects forward, manage contractors and trades, anticipate issues, advocate for the client

  • Juggle multiple projects, deadlines, and competing demands with a strong sense of urgency and follow-through

  • Work closely with a junior designer to collaboratively develop project designs and drawings; review their work and provide thoughtful, clear, and constructive feedback

  • Communicate with clients, contractors, vendors, and consultants with professionalism, empathy, and respect

  • Help diffuse tense situations and find solutions when challenges arise

WHO YOU ARE

  • 5+ years of high-end residential interior design experience

  • A progressive designer with strong aesthetic alignment with Cathie Hong Interiors

  • An excellent space planner with a strong eye for proportion, materials, and detail

  • Highly organized, attentive, proactive, and able to work with a strong sense of urgency

  • A natural problem solver who takes ownership and follows through

  • An empathetic, thoughtful communicator and good listener who can navigate difficult conversations and bring people together

  • Comfortable taking direction and collaborating closely with the Creative Director

  • Confident managing contractors, tradespeople, and project partners

  • Diligent and accurate with time tracking

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Google Workspace; familiarity with Studio Designer is a plus

  • Must have a car and be able to travel throughout the Bay Area for client, site, and project meetings

COMPENSATION + BENEFITS

$90,000-120,000 annual salary, depending on experience and qualifications, plus annual bonus and profit sharing. This is a 90-day contract-to-hire position.

Benefits include:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance

  • 401(k) with employer matching

  • 10 paid company holidays, plus company shutdown between Christmas & New Years

  • Annual performance reviews

  • Work-from-home position, with the expectation that you are Bay Area-based and available for regular project/site meetings (+/- 4 meetings per week)

If you are a thoughtful, highly capable designer who thrives on both creative design work and problem solving, we'd love to hear from you.
